Travis Foreman, The Bike Whisperer

2 YEARS OLD:
THE BIKE WHISPERER STRIKES AGAIN!

ABOUT THE BIKE WHISPERER

My name is Travis Foreman and I’m from Riverhead, NY. I’m a retired elementary school teacher of 23 years.

Back in 2017, I was walking across the tennis court at Hayground School in Bridgehampton, where I was teaching at the time. As I was walking, Jeff Mayer (former professional BMX’er) was supervising a BMX party on the pump track, and one of the kids didn’t know how to ride a bike. Jeff asked me to teach him.

Initially, I said no because I was in a rush to beat the Hamptons traffic back home to Riverhead. I looked over at the kid, and he looked very sad because he couldn’t enjoy the fun the other nine were having. The love I have for kids wouldn’t allow me to just leave him there without knowing how to ride a bike. I put my backpack down and taught him to ride in about seven minutes.

I took him over to Jeff, and immediately Jeff assumed the kid didn’t want to ride. I said, “He’s riding. I have to go,” lol. He said, “Wait! You taught him that fast?” I said, “Well, you asked me to teach him, didn’t you?” He said, “I’m gonna start calling you the Bike Whisperer!”

Since then, I’ve taught close to 9,000 kids how to ride a bike—from the Hamptons, Greenwich CT, Westport CT, Rye Brook NY, Scarsdale NY, NYC, New Jersey, Maryland, Atlanta GA, Boca Raton FL, Wellington FL, and Miami FL, where I currently reside.

This profession has really taken me for a ride—and it’s extremely rewarding. I’ll continue until the wheels fall off… meaning me, not the bikes!
